Truss refused to call Macron a friend of Britain

British Foreign Secretary and prime ministerial candidate Liz Truss said she had not decided whether French President Emmanuel Macron could be called a friend or foe for her country. The debate was broadcast by Sky News.

The Conservative Party campaign was held in Norwich this evening, where both prime ministerial candidates were asked the question “is President Macron a friend or foe?”

“It’s not clear yet… If I become prime minister, I will judge him by his actions, not his words,” Truss replied.

Second prime ministerial candidate Rishi Sunak, for his part, described the French president as a friend of the kingdom.

There have been numerous disagreements between the two states since Brexit: in particular, the parties cannot agree on fighting illegal migrants and fishing quotas in the English Channel.
