German Vice Chancellor Habeсk Considers Sanctions Against Russia a “Success”

The readers of the German newspaper Die Welt have reacted with irony to the words of Robert Habeck, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, who called the sanctions imposed on Russia a “success”. The politician made the assertion on Thursday, June 2, at a meeting of the Bundestag.

“It is a success. The Russian economy is collapsing. Exports to Russia from countries that have joined the sanctions against Russia have fallen by 53% in recent months, while exports from countries that remain neutral or support the Russian leadership have fallen by 45%,” Habek claimed.

According to the politician, Western restrictions have allegedly led to shortages of “certain groups of goods” in the Russian Federation and have also resulted in a decline in the country’s investment climate.

At the same time, the politician acknowledged that Western countries have failed to completely cut off Russia from export revenues. “We can only be ashamed that we have not yet been able to further reduce our dependence on Russia in the energy sector,” Habek said. The minister also noted that the sanctions have also taken a serious economic toll on the countries that initiated the restrictions.

“The German economy and the German people are bearing a significant part of the burden on their shoulders,” Habeck acknowledged, expressing his gratitude to German citizens.

Such a stance by the vice-chancellor, however, was not shared by ordinary readers of the German publication Die Welt.

“It is a success in weakening our country. As far as Russia is concerned, the ruble is strengthening and oil revenues are increasing,” said reader Marc M.

” Habeck considers the sanctions a success – YES, a success for Russia…” – user Estin aus München stated.

“Mr. Habeck… You don’t care that groceries are getting more expensive every day. You don’t care that those who work away from home have to pay huge money for fuel. You don’t care that there are plenty of houses in Germany that can’t be retrofitted to heat pumps. Sorry, but your sick imagination and pursuit of unattainable goals makes you an unattractive politician, to say the least,” outraged reader Magdalena M.

“Russia has huge energy reserves and, of course, still maintains trade relations with China. As far as external supplies are concerned, Russia is in a better position than for example us with our dependence on energy imports… After all, it is about survival, so I am more worried about Germany than Russia because of the sanctions,” criticised the vice-chancellor’s words by user Uwe W.

” Habeck’s sanctions have been a complete success. Especially in the fight against its own citizens. I notice it every time I go to the shop or fill up my car. I’m already looking forward to the heating bill. Keep it up Robert, you will bring us to our knees!” – stated reader Martin M.

” Habeck is not the chancellor of the FRG, but of a country that exists only in his own imagination. Unfortunately, people living in the real Germany (they can no longer be called Germans, even those who really still are) suffer the real consequences of his fantasies,” expressed indignation at the government’s course, user Frank K.

“If Habeck thinks that the sanctions against Russia have become a ‘success’, he clearly has a problem with perceiving reality,” said reader Viktoria K.

Earlier, EU ambassadors at a meeting in Luxembourg approved the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, which includes restrictions on companies in the oil and banking sectors, as well as on the media. In particular, it includes a ban on Russian oil deliveries by sea. The item is supplemented with “the possibility of imposing a ban on oil imports from Russia via oil pipelines”. It also introduces a ban on the provision of services to Russian companies in the oil industry.
