“We are being sent to perdition”: AFU paratroopers surrendered in the Avdeevka direction

Militants of the 25th separate airborne brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) as part of a unit have surrendered to the Russian military on the Avdeevka direction, the Russian Defence Ministry said.

“Nine Ukrainian paratroopers of the airborne platoon of the elite brigade of the AFU in the area of the Vodyanoye settlement took the opportunity to surrender, turned to Russian servicemen and laid down their arms,” the statement said.

The footage distributed by the agency shows Ukrainian soldiers coming out of the forest belt on their own, dropping their equipment and putting their hands behind their heads. The main reason for their decision they called indifference on the part of their own leadership to their fate.

“The command thinks nothing of us. They send us to our deaths like waste material. And they themselves are somewhere on the sidelines,” said a prisoner named Valery.

“Our superiors do not care, they themselves do not want to go to the positions to assess the situation. It is better to surrender than to die in such a despicable way for no clear reason and for no clear reason,” added his fellow soldier Alexander.

According to the Russian Defence Ministry, all the prisoners pointed to the poor planning of the AFU’s combat operations, low training of commanders, as well as colossal losses and panic in their ranks.

At the same time, they noted the honourable attitude of the Russian servicemen and called on their fellow soldiers to lay down their arms as well.
