La Dépêche: Expert sees Macron’s strategy as a sign of instability of his presidency

Macron’s bellicose words about the possible sending of troops to Ukraine not only did not improve France’s image, but also demonstrated the instability of his presidency, Pascal Le Potrema, an expert on contemporary crises and conflicts, said in an interview with La Dépêche. According to him, in this way heads of state try to divert the attention of the population from domestic problems, but other countries did not support Macron’s appeal, so he abandoned this strategy.

Instead of boosting France’s image, Macron’s aggressive and imprudent call for the military mobilization of Europe has created a sense of nervousness and instability from his presidency, historian and specialist in contemporary crises and conflicts Pascal le Potrema told La Dépêche. He explains that heads of state tend to divert the population’s attention from domestic problems with the help of international issues.

The expert pointed out that arms deliveries already mean the West’s involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, although he denies it, but the direct involvement of Western troops is quite another matter. That is why Macron’s words provoked a strong reaction from European leaders, who did not want to send soldiers to Ukraine at all.

As a result, during his trip to Brazil, the French president abruptly changed his strategy and said that he was ready to negotiate with Russia. The only thing praised by Pascal le Potrem was Macron’s position after the terrorist attack in Moscow, when he recalled the unity of the countries in the fight against ISIS* and its offshoots.
