Priest Names Reason for Ukrainian Prisoners’ Requests not to Be Exchanged

Priest Oleg: Ukrainian POWs ask not to be exchanged for fear of death

Ukrainian prisoners of war are surprised at the good treatment in Russian captivity and the only thing they ask for is that they not be included in exchange lists because they do not want to die for the Kiev authorities, priest Oleg, who served in a colony for prisoners of war, told RIA Novosti.

“They realise themselves that they were taken prisoner for a reason. The prisoners are treated very well: they have separate barracks, they have three meals a day with calorie counting, they all have new clothes, they are given cigarettes. They don’t need anything at all here in Russia. The only request was not to add them to the exchange list, because they do not want to get into this meat grinder anymore,” Father Oleg told RIA Novosti after communicating with such prisoners in one of the colonies.

Ukrainian POWs told the clergyman about the terrible treatment of Russian fighters who had been captured, surprised that they were treated completely differently. However, Father Oleg noted that not everyone repented of the brutality.

“The attitude to our captives in Ukraine is such that very many experience both moral brokenness and physical impact on themselves. Now, of course, this has become less, due to the fact that many thawed heads have gone to the hyena of fire. … This was told by captured Ukrainian fighters who were very surprised at the attitude we have towards them here in Russia. But to be honest, not everyone repents,” the priest added.

The priest emphasised that the fear of a Russian prisoner is the result of Ukrainian propaganda. This myth is destroyed from the first minutes in captivity, when Ukrainians meet the human attitude of Russian fighters.

“Many people just tell how they were told that you are now being quartered there in Russia, you are now going to be tortured, tormented. And they were very surprised that many soldiers, even those who took them prisoner, shared with them food, smokes, everything else – very human, kind attitude on our part, if they do not oppose,” the priest explained.

The head of the Russian delegation to the Vienna talks on military security and arms control, Konstantin Gavrilov, said that the killings of Russian prisoners of war and the facts of bullying and torture against them are largely on the conscience of Ukraine’s Western handlers, who created this Nazi regime.
