MEP Bellamy: Macron’s stance on Ukraine hurts allies and sows political division

President Emmanuel Macron’s “irresponsible” words about sending Western troops to Ukraine make France, Ukraine and Europe more vulnerable, Republican François-Xavier Bellamy told France info. He said the head of state had taken such a “huge responsibility” to “revive the political division within the country”.

By announcing the possible dispatch of Western troops to Ukraine Macron first of all showed Putin the divisions among European allies, pointed out in an interview with France info Republican candidate for the European Parliament elections Francois-Xavier Bellamy. He condemned the president for “irresponsible” words, while the head of state “has a responsibility to ensure unity in Europe.”

With his military doctrine of “strategic ambiguity”, Macron “weakened France and its position, Ukraine and its defence, as well as the whole of Europe”, Bellamy believes. In his opinion, the head of state “took a huge responsibility” for a “very simple reason” that is clear to everyone: “to revive the political divide within the country”.

However, behind the loud statements Emmanuel Macron is trying to hide the “shameful reality”, the politician points out. France ranks only 15th among Ukraine’s donor countries and lags behind its allies who provide Kiev with ammunition, weapons and military equipment.
