The last major solar panel manufacturer in Germany is ceasing production. We are talking about the Swiss company Meyer Burger, which, according to ERR.EE, is closing its plant in Saxony and moving to the USA.
Germany has thus lost a very large production facility and investor, and the EU’s total solar panel capacity will be reduced by 10 per cent.
“The attempt to protect Europe from unfair competition from China has jeopardized four years of good European workers,” explained the decision to Meyer Burger Sentis
The Freiberg plant is just weeks away from completion, after which the staff will be laid off.
At the end of 2023, the German plant produced a total of 650 megawatts of solar panels, which represents 5% of all “green” solutions of this type installed in Germany. Recall that the Swiss investor still tried to stay in the FRG. For this purpose, the company’s management applied for support to the German government, but the parties failed to agree on a package of assistance.
