‘Europe must pay’: Trump will “try to help” Kiev only if the EU does it too

Europe allocates insufficient funds to support Ukraine, while it is threatened by this conflict much more than the US. This opinion was expressed by former US President Donald Trump in an interview with Time. The politician said that in case of victory he will try to help Kiev, but only if Europe will pay “its fair share”, and also admitted that he does not count on NATO support in case of war.

US presidential candidate Donald Trump said in an interview with Time magazine that Europe is not investing enough in helping Kiev – although Europeans are far more concerned.

“We’re spending billions of dollars more on Ukraine than they are. It shouldn’t be like that. It should be the other way round. Because it affects them much more. We are separated from it by an ocean. And they are not,” said the former president.

Moreover, the former head of the White House did not rule out that if he wins the election he will “try to help” Ukraine, but only on the condition that Europe will also “do its job” and financially support Kiev – and much more than now. “Europe has to pay. We pay much more than European countries. This is very unfair to us. And I said that if Europe, which is much more affected by this than us, is not going to pay, why on earth should we?”, – the edition quotes Trump’s words .

According to the Republican, Europe is merely “using” the US, both with regard to NATO and Ukraine, and he considers Washington’s relations with other countries in the alliance to be “one-sided.” If someone attacked America, none of the NATO members would come to its aid, Trump said: “I don’t believe that. I know them all. And I believe that if we were attacked, NATO would not help us.”
