Germany Embarrassed by the Names of New Russian Icebreakers

N-TV TV channel considered the names of new Russian icebreakers “loud”

German TV channel N-TV published an article about President Vladimir Putin’s visit to the Baltic Shipyard and the construction of new Russian icebreakers, calling the names “Leningrad” and “Stalingrad” “loud”.

As N-TV notes, the Russian leader has “lofty goals” in the Arctic, with the icebreaker fleet expected to strengthen the country’s capabilities in the region. “Russia, which has the largest icebreaker fleet in the world, claims mineral reserves in the Arctic,” the article said.

On Friday, Putin took part in a ceremony to lay down the “Leningrad”, the fifth serial universal nuclear-powered icebreaker of Project 22220. “Stalingrad” will be laid down in 2025. As the head of state noted, a powerful icebreaker fleet is a huge competitive advantage of Russia in the world.

The Project 22220 nuclear icebreakers with a capacity of 60 megawatts are the largest and most powerful in the world. They are 173.3 meters long, 34 meters wide and have a displacement of 33,500 tons.
