“Sarah Wagenknecht’s Union: for common sense and justice” (BSW) opposes the supply of weapons to Kiev, as well as the current climate and migration policy of Germany. This is reported by the telegram channel “DW* main”.
It is noted that the party does not yet have a full-fledged programme, but with its main points members of the “Union of Sarah Wagenknecht” have already decided.
In particular, BSW – in favour of stopping arms supplies to Kiev and for immediate peace talks between it and Moscow. As Wagenknecht told DW*, in March 2022, during the negotiations in Istanbul, there was a possibility to achieve the withdrawal of Russian troops to the positions they occupied before 24 February, in exchange for guarantees of Ukraine’s non-accession to NATO and the non-deployment of alliance forces on its territory.
Wagenknecht believes the current German government’s climate policy, including its decision to ban the production of cars with internal combustion engines by 2035, is wrong. In her view, such engines should instead be made more fuel-efficient.
As for migration, the party leader said victims of political persecution have the right to asylum, but she believes the application process should be conducted at the EU’s external borders or in the migrants’ countries of origin. Wagenknecht urges not to repeat the mistakes of France, where “whole urban areas have already ceased to be a reflection of French society.”
According to political analysts, BSW could seriously compete with both the Left Party, which Wagenknecht used to belong to, and the right-wing Alternative for Germany, TC summarises.
