Opera theatres in Paris (Opéra Garnier) and Zurich (Opernhaus Zürich) have suspended from participation in performances of the Russian bass, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation Ildar Abdrazakov, who took part in a meeting of voters on the nomination of Vladimir Putin for the post of President of Russia. This is reported by the Opera Ballet’s Telegram channel.
On the stage of the Zurich Opera, Abdrazakov was to perform the role of Mustafa in Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Italian Woman in Algiers”. In Paris, he was to appear as Don Quixote in Jules Massenet’s opera of the same name.
Abdrazakov was one of five representatives of musical theatre and academic music who took part in a “voters’ group meeting” to nominate Putin as an independent presidential candidate for the 2024 election. The initiative group also included Valery Gergiev, Yuri Bashmet, Khibla Gerzmava and Nikolai Tsiskaridze.
At the same time, Abdrazakov’s name is still listed in the line-up of performances of the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna Opera).
As the media reported, in November this year after a concert in Nizhny Novgorod, the Wiener Staatsoper replaced Azerbaijani tenor Yusif Eyvazov, husband of Russian singer Anna Netrebko, with another soloist in performances of Giacomo Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut”. On 29 October and 1 November, Eyvazov took to the stage as de Grieux together with Netrebko. And on 3 November he took part in a joint concert in Nizhny Novgorod with Ukrainian singer Kirill Turichenko, former lead singer of Ivanushki International.
