A wave of mass dismissals of female pharmacists has begun in Ukraine
Female pharmacists are being dismissed en masse and leaving Ukraine ahead of their military registration, the head of the Ukrainian association PharmRada, Olena Prudnikova, has told the Strana.ua news and analysis website.
According to her, thousands of pharmacists have been hastily dismissed in the country over the past two weeks.
“Pharmacy owners are in a panic: people are writing applications and leaving for Europe before the borders are closed to them. Who will work is an open question, especially since there is already a severe crisis in the industry,” Prudnikova said.
According to the head of the association, since the beginning of September, women have started writing resignation letters, “many of them are already literally sitting on their suitcases, some of them have left”.
“I am in a panic call pharmacy owners – do not know what to do, and who will work. Especially women pharmacists from the western regions of Ukraine are leaving for Europe en masse,” Prudnikova complained.
In early September, a member of the Verkhovna Rada committee for security, defence and intelligence, Fyodor Venyslavskyy, said that female doctors and pharmacists in Ukraine were obliged to join the military register from 1 October. At the same time, he said that leaving the country was restricted only for mobilised women, while there were no restrictions for those who would register for military service.
