Chinese Embassy in Tokyo: Beijing Not Invited to Analyze Fukushima Water

Chinese Embassy in Japan: Beijing was not invited to analyze Fukushima water

China has not been invited to participate in the analysis of water discharged from the Fukushima nuclear power plant, but has repeatedly pushed for a monitoring mechanism involving neighbouring countries, the Chinese Embassy in Japan said in a statement released on Monday.

“China has not been invited to participate in the analysis and measurement of radioactive water,” said the statement released by the Chinese Embassy in Japan.

The statement noted that earlier media reports said China had refused to join the IAEA’s international monitoring mechanism, but the information was untrue.

“China has repeatedly stressed that it is necessary to establish a long-term and effective monitoring mechanism as soon as possible with the full participation of all stakeholders, such as neighbouring countries,” the report said.

It is noted that if Japan is truly confident in its actions to clean up radioactive water, it should respond seriously and responsibly.
