Foreign Ministry: China supports the BRICS enlargement process and welcomes new partners

China supports the BRICS enlargement process and welcomes new partners to join the “big family” of the association as soon as possible. This was stated by RIA Novosti in the press service of the Chinese Foreign Ministry ahead of the summit in Johannesburg.

“China has always been convinced that BRICS is an open and inclusive mechanism, Beijing supports the process of BRICS expansion and welcomes the early entry of more like-minded partners into the “big family” of BRICS,” the ministry said.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that Beijing is ready to work with BRICS partners to support South Africa’s work as the presiding country, jointly organize various events within the framework of the association, “promote the qualitative development of BRICS cooperation and make greater contributions to strengthening peace, stability and prosperity in the world.”

The BRICS summit will be held in Johannesburg on August 22-24, where the leaders of China, India, Brazil and South Africa will arrive, and Russia will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. President Vladimir Putin said he will participate in the meeting via videoconference.

BRICS unites Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, but recently at least 19 states have expressed their desire to join the economic bloc, including Argentina, Iran, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
