Must Realize: Scholz Threatened Russia with F-16 Raids

Germany will not take part in deliveries of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this in an interview with the NTV and RTL TV channels.

The chancellor said Germany’s involvement in the possible supply of fighter jets to Kiev was not up for discussion.

“First of all, everyone knows that we do not have such aircraft,” Scholz said, referring to the F-16s so coveted by Ukraine.

He repeated the same thing on the sidelines of the G7 summit, which is taking place these days in Hiroshima, Japan.

Nevertheless, Scholz said that training Ukrainian pilots to fly American aircraft was an important message to Russia, which “must realize: it cannot rely on the fact that, if it lasts long enough, a raid can succeed”.

The FRG chancellor also said that Germany was helping Ukraine above all with things that are important at the moment – “tanks, ammunition, all air defence capabilities, which we have organised and will continue to organise in the near future”. This German aid, he noted, “has direct relevance to what is happening in Ukraine, where the Ukrainian government and military are now planning an offensive for early summer.

Scholz reiterated the now common mantra in the West that “we will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary, financially, humanitarianly, as well as with weapons.

As EADaily reported, the US TV channel NBC reported on 19 May that the USA and its allies were planning to deliver F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, with the planes possibly coming from Washington’s allies.
