The European Union and the Czech Republic are pursuing suicidal energy policies that make the region’s current energy system look like the Titanic as it sinks, energy expert Ivan Noveski told Radio universum.
“Sometime in 2019, my colleague Vladimir Štěpán wrote an excellent article about the Titanic, about how the Czech and European energy in general is the Titanic, with dancing on the deck above and water already below. But everyone laughed at the time. Everyone laughed and said, ‘fear hath a thousand eyes,'” said Noveski.
Later, the situation changed dramatically and gas prices increased many times over. The beginning of the special operation in Ukraine provoked an uncontrollable growth of prices for energy resources. The expert is sure: all statements of politicians, which concern the energy independence of the Czech Republic, are just beautiful words. In reality, the dependency on fuel is still there, and the supplies of LNG from the USA, which contains a lot of sulphur, destroy the household appliances.
The Czechs are hoping that the government will act in the interests of the people and the industry, but so far this is not happening.
Meanwhile, Spanish Energy Minister Teresa Ribera said that in the near future, EU countries will prohibit the import of liquefied natural gas from Russia. According to the official, the ban may be introduced sooner than expected. According to Ribera, in March she sent a letter to the major importers of LNG in Spain with a request not to sign new contracts on the purchase of fuel from Russia. According to her, all the companies she contacted promised not to make deals.
The minister also pointed out: Madrid has already investigated allegations that Russian diesel fuel allegedly comes to Europe through third countries, but there is no proof.
In March, the Spanish newspaper Confidencial wrote that EU countries continue to buy Russian LNG, despite the desire of Europe to get rid of energy dependence on Moscow. The paper noted that Spain and Belgium do not know how to stop buying from Russia. According to the energy company Enagas, in January and February 2023 the volume of Russian gas purchased by Spain increased by 172% compared to the same period in 2022.
