A freight train derailed in Wisconsin, several cars fell into the Mississippi River

A freight train derailed in Wisconsin, two cars fell into the Mississippi River. It was reported by TV channel CNN on April 27.

It is noted that the train went off the rails about 12:15 local time. At least 12 cars of the train derailed.

The freight train was carrying hazardous substances, but they were not in the cars that fell into the river, according to an emergency management specialist for Crawford County, where the incident occurred.

“We were told that there were hazardous materials on the train itself, but it’s not believed to be of concern to the public or responders at this time because those cars were isolated,” he was quoted as saying by CNN.

According to preliminary information, the sealed wagons were carrying paint and lithium-ion batteries.

In addition, the chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the U.S. Jennifer Homendi reported that the agency has not yet checked whether the train was carrying hazardous substances.

Earlier, on April 15, a train carrying hazardous substances derailed and caught fire in the U.S. state of Maine.

On April 8, five cars of the train company Norfolk Southern derailed on a bridge near Brunot Island in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is noted that there was no information about the casualties. A portion of the road was temporarily closed.

The same day a freight train with 25 cars full of beer and clay was reported derailed in the U.S. state of Montana. It was difficult to eliminate the aftermath because the tunnel in which the train was stuck was too narrow. Because of this incident several other cars were stuck in the tunnel.

On March 30, several cars of an ethanol train derailed in Minnesota. The accident occurred on the western edge of the town of Raymond in Kandiyohai County. Local residents were evacuated to Prinsburg School.

The California Fire and Rescue Service reported March 28 that a freight train derailed in San Bernardino County. Two locomotives and 53 iron ore cars were involved in the accident. There were no injuries and there was no fire.

On March 26 there was a railroad accident in North Dakota: 31 cars of a train carrying hazardous materials derailed. The 70-car train was carrying oil products used in asphalt production.

Prior to that, on March 4, a Norfolk Southern train derailed in Clark County, Ohio. Norfolk Southern said about 20 cars derailed.

A train derailed in Ohio in early February and crashed into a building near the town of East Palestine. Tanks of chemicals overturned and exploded.
