The Bundestag Recognized the End of Western Hegemony

Bundestag deputy Dagdelen has declared the end of Western hegemony in its struggle with Russia

Western countries, pursuing their neo-colonial aspirations in confronting Russia and China, are increasingly isolating themselves from the world, while the states of the Global South oppose such policies, Sevim Dagdelen, a member of the Left parliamentary faction and member of the German Bundestag Committee for International Policy, said in her article for Jungle Welt.

“In its confrontation with Russia and China, the Biden administration is trying to establish a world of neocolonial oppression to prevent it from losing its hegemonic status. The current expression of this aspiration is the harsh demands by the US and its allies for countries of the Global South to engage in economic warfare against Russia and to supply weapons for the proxy war in Ukraine,” the MP said.

The West, she said, is trying to recreate “a quasi-colonial system of subjugation and thereby oppose the waning influence of the US and the EU in the world”. “But most of these countries and their peoples are unwilling to follow the course of the US and NATO countries,” Dagdelen observed.

Despite Western pressure, the Global South, representing 87% of the world’s population, refuses to join both anti-Russian sanctions and NATO’s indirect military intervention in the conflict in Ukraine, she pointed out.

Dagdelen also drew attention to the increasing abandonment of the dollar as the world currency, which, together with the rapid development of Brazil, India and China, as well as the increasing cooperation and integration of the South, is defining the movement towards a multipolar world, despite the resistance of NATO countries.
