160 Developers Arrested after Earthquakes in Türkiye

Turkish authorities have identified 564 executives and employees of companies – developers and contractors suspected of being responsible for the collapse of buildings, 160 of them have been arrested. This was announced by the country’s Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu on Wednesday, February 22.

“No one will escape punishment, human lives are at stake. So far, 564 suspects have been identified, 160 of them are now in custody, 18 have been detained and 175 have been released on their own recognisance,” TRT Haber TV channel reported him as saying.

The devastating earthquakes with magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred on February 6 in the Turkish province of Kahramanmarash in the southeast of the country near the Syrian border. According to the latest figures, the death toll from the earthquake in Türkiye exceeded 43,500, while in Syria it rose to 5,800.
