More than 11,000 people died from Covid-19 and nearly 3 million people were infected worldwide between 2 and 8 January 2023, the World Health Organization said in a weekly report.
“Globally, nearly 2.9 million new cases and more than 11,000 deaths (from coronavirus) were reported during the week of 2 to 8 January 2023,” the document says.
The organization added that this means a 9% and 12% reduction in weekly cases and deaths respectively.
As of 8 January 2023, more than 659 million confirmed cases and more than 6.6 million deaths had been reported worldwide, WHO said.
