MTV.fi: Most Finns Oppose the Establishment of a NATO Base in the Country

The establishment of a permanent NATO base in Finland has drawn more criticism than support from Finnish citizens, according to the online edition of MTV. This follows the results of a survey conducted in the country from December 27 to January 4.

According to the survey, the establishment of a permanent NATO base in Finland is more criticized than supported by the citizens of the country. Forty-eight percent of respondents were against the construction of the NATO base, while 39% supported it.

The views of Finns were divided almost equally.

Most of the respondents would like to see Finland participate more actively in international military operations and NATO activities, in addition to defending its own territory.

Finland is still waiting for Turkey and Hungary decision about joining NATO.

Taloustuktuikmus conducted the survey between December 27 and January 4. 1,009 people aged 18 to 79 took part in the survey. The survey was conducted by telephone.

The margin of error is about 3 percentage points.
