French Parliament Expresses Concern over Rising Bread Prices Due to Situation in Ukraine

Member of the French National Assembly Francois Jolivet has expressed concern about the rising cost of bread in the country. He presented his arguments on this issue in an address to Minister of Economy, Finance and Sovereignty for Industry and Digital Sovereignty Bruno Le Maire. The journalists have examined the document.

Thus, in his request to the minister, Jolivet noted that in France “the number of people who suffer from a lack of regular meals, in particular due to the rising price of bread, is increasing”.

“For several months now, the rise in the price of electricity and raw materials due to the conflict in Ukraine has mechanically led to price rises for many everyday products, including bread. Throughout the territory, particularly in the Endre department, bakers are sounding the alarm and saying that with the increase of their bills tenfold or more, the price of bread could go up by 20-30%. Neither consumers nor traders will be able to bear it,” the MP explained.

At the same time, he reminded that trade at the local level, such as the operation of bakeries, is “necessary for the vitality and dynamism of the rural community”.

Jolivet therefore called on the government to regulate the price of bread and, in parallel, to help bakery owners with the payment of electricity bills and the purchase of raw materials.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron during a conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to supply the Ukrainian army with AMX-10RC armoured vehicles.

On New Year’s Eve, Macron said that France would support Ukraine “until victory”.
