Putin: West lied about peace, was preparing for aggression and now is saying it openly
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a New Year’s address to Russians on January 1, 2023, that the West had lied when speaking of peace, as it was in fact preparing for aggression.
“The West lied while in fact it was preparing for aggression, and today it is confessing it openly, no longer embarrassed. And Ukraine and its people are being cynically used to weaken and divide Russia. We have never and will never allow anyone to do this,” he said.
Putin added that Western elites have for years hypocritically assured us all of their peaceful intentions, including on resolving the conflict in Donbas.
“In reality, they fully encouraged neo-Nazis who continued their military, openly terrorist actions against peaceful citizens of the people’s republics of Donbas,” he clarified.
