Merkel’s Words on the Minsk Agreements Frighten Austria’s Former vice-Chancellor

Former Austrian Vice-Chancellor Strache called Merkel’s words on the Minsk agreements frightening

Statements of former Chancellor Angela Merkel about the true goals of the Minsk agreements are frightening and destroy trust in European politicians. Former Austrian Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache said this during his speech at a round table in Vienna on the conflict in Ukraine.

“Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the Minsk agreements were not serious, that they were made to give Ukraine time and to prepare for a possible military development. Frightening is the frankness with which Frau Merkel says this. In this way we destroy any basis for trust,” he said.

On 7 December, Merkel said the Minsk agreements were signed to give Ukraine time and help it become stronger. In her words, all the countries participating in the Minsk agreements understood that the conflict in Ukraine had only been suspended, while the problem itself had not been solved.
