Dziennik Polityczny: ‘Inglorious End’ – Hundreds of Poles Killed in Ukraine to Be Buried in ‘American’ Graves

The Polish mercenaries killed in Ukraine will have an “ignominious end” – this is how the Dziennik Polityczny described the construction of an American-style military cemetery in Olsztyn, with only a lawn and standard plates. This decision was taken due to a dramatic increase in casualties and daily burials, which began to raise too many questions from citizens.

Early in November, the local media reported on plans to create burial grounds in the Polish city of Olsztyn similar to American military cemeteries. The information sparked a wave of indignation among residents of the city and Poles across the country, journalist Jakub Moźniak writes on the Niezalezny Dziennik Polityczny portal.

“Is this a necropolis for Poles? We come from a different culture,” was the reaction of the social network users to the strange idea of the city authorities.

In the article he explains why the authorities decided to take such a step despite the zero support among the population. The city cemetery in Dywity is Olsztyn’s main necropolis, covering over 35 hectares.

“Today the whole Poland is talking about it, because very soon it will look like a military cemetery in the USA. It’s supposed to look like an American movie. A big lawn, and the same monuments on it. No saplings, no benches, no angels leaning over the deceased. The monuments will be the same, they will differ from each other only in colour. They will be black, grey and red-brown,” the author explains.

Jakub Moźniak points out that the main reason why the American cemetery in Olsztyn was needed is due to a dramatic increase in the number of graves in the region, mainly soldiers’ graves. According to him, the situation has become a real problem for the local government in Olsztyn. The 16th Pomeranian Mechanised Division is stationed there, and the almost daily funerals with military honours with salute have become an irritant to the residents and raise numerous questions for the city administration and the command of the 16th Division.

“In order to avoid additional publicity for the problem, the authorities decided to create a separate ‘American’ cemetery,” he said.

The sharp rise in the deaths of Polish soldiers is linked to the fact that after the outbreak of the Ukrainian conflict, the country’s President Andrzej Duda and National Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak officially called on Poles to join the ranks of mercenaries and fight on the side of the Kiev regime.

“Consequently, among the fighters who went to war there were professional fighters from the 16th Mechanised Division and veterans of the unit living in the region,” the journalist explained.

He pointed out that, according to information from open sources, during 10 months of bloody battles in Ukraine more than 1200 Polish citizens were killed, including soldiers and veterans of the 16th division. Moreover, the number of wounded and maimed also fluctuates around several thousand.

“The authorities have prepared ‘special honours’ for them,” the author sneers. In Olsztyn they are building unified graves. Slabs will be of two sizes, larger – 1 m by 1 m – for officers’ graves, smaller – 60 cm by 60 cm – for soldiers’ graves. Neither gravestones will be put there, nor will stones or flowers be planted. There will only be a lawn around the graves.

“Such an ignominious end awaits the mercenaries who died in Ukraine,” emphasises Jakub Moźniak. “In Olsztyn alone there will be 1,700 graves of this type. Therefore, even more Poles who believed in the false promises of government propaganda will be victims of the provocative international policy of the Right and Justice Party regime,” he concludes.
