Sun: Sunak made it clear to Johnson that his return as prime minister would be a disaster
Former British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, during a meeting with former Prime Minister Boris Johnson on October 22, made it clear to him that his return to the post of prime minister would be a disaster for the Conservative Party, the Sun newspaper reported, citing sources.
Earlier, the Telegraph newspaper reported that Johnson and Sunak had held talks, but did not conclude any agreements. Sky News television channel, for its part, reports that Johnson will not run for the Conservative leader and head of the cabinet.
“It (the meeting) was friendly and cordial, but the reality is that the return of Boris would be a disaster for the party, and Rishi made that clear,” the publication quotes a source as saying.
Johnson, for his part, indicated that they could unite the party if they “put the old group together.” He also made it clear that he would play a leadership role in this hypothetical tandem.
It is noted that Sunak found this proposal unconvincing.
