Rallies Against the Country’s Energy Policy Took Place in Germany

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, more than 7,000 people protested Monday night against Germany’s energy policy and its consequences for companies and consumers. The newspaper Die Welt reported this on October 3.

Demonstrators gathered in 15 cities on German Unity Day (October 3), including the cities of Schwerin, Wismar, Ludwigslust, Neubrandenburg, Güstrow and Waren, according to police.

According to the newspaper, in Neubrandenburg, where there were several hundred participants, one of the demonstrators called for an energy policy that remains affordable. The protesters also advocated a peaceful dialogue instead of arms shipments to Ukraine and marched with pickets that read “Druzhba” in Russian.

Residents of eastern Germany support Russia’s special operation in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by Saxon politician Frank Richter.

He wrote this in a column for Spiegel.

“Many people in the east of the republic seem to look at Russia differently than most people in the west of the country… Cars with Ukrainian license plates are scratched and often have the letter Z carved on them,” Richter said.

He said that there are demonstrations in the streets and squares of eastern Germany in support of Russia, and German flags are flying next to Russian flags.

According to him, residents of eastern Germany also do not support the sanctions against Russia.

Earlier, a rally against anti-Russian sanctions was held in the German city of Zwickau.
