For the European Union, “the hour of reckoning has come” because of the ill-considered policy in the energy sector and dependence on gas supplies from Russia, Nicola Porro, deputy editor-in-chief of Il Giornale, said in a column.
“The hour of reckoning has come for us. We physically have less gas than we need. And the volume that we will have will be expensive,” Porro wrote.
He noted that the European crisis in the energy sphere began back in October 2021, and even after the start of the Russian special operation, the EU authorities did not take adequate action to resolve the situation.
Earlier, the chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated that Europe will face a difficult winter.
Within the framework of the plenary session of the European Parliament on October 3-6 in Strasbourg the deputies will discuss the situation in Ukraine and rising energy prices.
