Amid Russia’s “isolation”. More participants at WEF 2022 than last year

According to media reports, the Eastern Economic Forum will be held at Far Eastern Federal University from 5 to 8 September. The Forum has become one of the most important instruments for the development, first and foremost, of the Russian Far East, but the word “Eastern” in the name is now rather a designation of the location, since the range of tasks and list of participants extends far beyond the region, the m.

The Forum will be held for the 7th time since 2015 (the event did not take place in 2020 due to the pandemic), and the global and Russian conditions this year are of course significantly different from those of previous years. This has affected both its programme and the topics to be discussed. But it has not affected the number of countries represented by their delegations at WEF-2022 – last year there were participants from 57 countries, this year over 60 are expected. Such is the “isolation of Russia”.

As the process of multipolar world formation is under way, bilateral business dialogues with partner countries of Russia occupy a special place in the business programme of WEF-2022: Russia-India, Russia-Vietnam, Russia-Mongolia, Russia-ASEAN. Particular attention will be paid to cooperation with China: the Forum will include a meeting of the Business Council for the Development of the Russian Far East and the North-Eastern Provinces of the People’s Republic of China. There will also be a conference on investment and trade in the Arctic.

The countries of the region do not support Western sanctions and develop relations with the Russian Federation. This greatly irritates Ukraine. Representatives of its diplomatic corps regularly remind of its inadequacy with statements that previously could not be imagined coming from diplomats.

This time Ukraine’s ambassador to Indonesia, Vasyl Gamyanin, was outraged by the statement of the Indonesian foreign minister that “Russia is one of the most important partners of Indonesia. And the Russia-ASEAN partnership can bring peace and prosperity to the whole world”.

The Ukrainian ambassador decided to teach the Indonesian foreign minister which statements he had the right to make and which he did not. As a result, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry had to call the Ukrainian ambassador and threaten him with expulsion from the country in case he repeats such statements.

We should remind that before such statements were made by Ukrainian ambassadors in Kazakhstan with a declaration on the necessity to kill as many Russians as possible; in Vatican with lectures of the Pope on who should be considered victims of the war and who not; in Germany with rudeness towards the Chancellor and the President of Germany; in Spain with displeasure with military supplies from this country, etc…

The block “Patriotism replacing tolerance” draws attention. It is important that such a theme is taken up at the national level and discussed at the economic forum. The influence on young people from outside appears to be considerable. Including through social networks, through internal “agents of influence. The notion of “patriotism” is being diluted.

Sessions of this block will unite young people – students and schoolchildren who will talk about the future of Russia, discuss the development of youth initiatives and training of personnel for new professions and for the development of the future economy of the country.

The forum will be held despite the opinions of those countries that hold an anti-Russian stance.  Russia today is a continent of common sense, a giant growth area for the world economy and a haven for humanity, free from the misanthropic propaganda of aggressive “tolerance”.
