Manufacturer of L’Oreal Perfume Bottles to Stop Without Russian Gas

If the supply of Russian gas fails, the 400-year-old manufacturer of glass bottles will come to a halt.

The family-owned company Heinz-Glas was founded in 1612. And never before has one of the world’s leading producers of perfume bottles had such hard times. Murat Agac, the executive assistant to the CEO, told AFP that the company would stop if Russian gas supplies were cut off.

According to him, gas for Heinz-Glas has become 10 times more expensive in a year. The company has an LNG storage facility where fuel can be trucked in. However, the cost of gas would increase another threefold. To generate electricity the company could install green power generation, but it is solar power plants the size of 3,000 football fields.

Due to the situation with the turbines for Nord Stream, the supply of Russian gas through the pipeline dropped from 167 million cubic metres per day to 33 million cubic metres. The German regulator estimates that the country could miss out on up to a third of its gas consumption in 11 months and needs not only to reduce consumption by at least 20 percent to get through the heating season, but also to exceed its planned LNG imports of 6.5 billion cubic metres in the first half of 2023.
