The European Union behaves as a vassal of the United States and sacrifices its own interests in the spheres of economy and security for the sake of Washington. This was stated by Clare Daly, MEP from Ireland, in her interview to Global Times.
According to the parliamentarian, Europe declares the desire to become more independent, but with the beginning of the special operation of Russia in Ukraine, “they literally behave as vassals of the United States.” Daly noted that European interests “are being sacrificed for U.S. interests that oppose Russia.
The deputy pointed out that it is in Europe’s interests to live in peace with Russia, which can be achieved by reaching a security agreement with Moscow; however, “Europe is doing exactly the opposite. At the same time, the strategic independence of the EU is being undermined by the talk about NATO expansion, which “has never brought peace” and “solves the problems it creates”.
In addition, the parliamentarian criticized Western sanctions against Russia, noting that the restrictions do not work and will not become a deterrent.
“If Europe cuts off Russian energy supplies, which the U.S. is seeking, then hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of Europeans will lose their jobs… And we should not forget that none of these measures will affect saving a single Ukrainian life, but will ruin the European economy,” Daly explained.
