Putin and Biden accepted Macron’s offer to meet in Europe

Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden accepted Macron’s invitation to host a summit in Europe.

French President Emmanuel Macron invited American and Russian counterparts Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin to hold a summit on security and strategic stability in Europe. This was reported by the press service of the Elysee Palace.

Both politicians supported the idea and accepted Macron’s offer to meet in Europe. French leader also suggested holding a meeting with all parties concerned later.

Later, the US president’s administration confirmed Biden’s agreement to meet with Putin. The summit will be preceded by talks between Russian and US Foreign Ministers Sergei Lavrov and Anthony Blinken. They will meet on February 24th. They will prepare questions for the heads of state.

Dialogue against the background of the “invasion” threat

Earlier, Psaki explained that the White House still believes that Russia continues to prepare for a “full-scale invasion” of Ukraine. This will take place “in the near future” according to Washington. The US administration spokeswoman provided no proofs to support this claim.

On February 20, CBS News national security correspondent David Martin declared the United States had intelligence data that the Russian command allegedly had been ordered to launch an “invasion” of Ukraine. According to him, the commanders got the task to develop specific maneuvers in their sectors of the battlefield. “Intelligence informs that they are doing everything that American commanders would do if they were ordered to act,” the reporter said. However, he did not provide any evidence for his words.

Later, CNN made a similar statement, citing anonymous sources. However, the channel’s interlocutor explained that the orders can always be withdrawn or this could be disinformation designed to confuse and mislead the US and its allies. Also, journalists did not see any other evidence of Russian aggression, such as cyber attacks or electronic jamming.
