Ukrainian Media Mock German Chancellor’s Visit to Kiev

The Ukrainian media space has controversially assessed the German chancellor’s visit to Kiev. The Ukrainian news agency UNIAN mocked Olaf Scholz, who arrived in Ukraine, hinting at his repeated promises to give weapons to the Armed Forces “afterwards”.

The Ukrainian publication suggested making him wait for a taxi at the train station “until the end of the month or until autumn”. The journalists thus hinted at the German politician’s promises to supply weapons to Ukraine.

“Here he is standing for an hour, two hours at the train station. Calling, asking where a taxi is. And Zelensky says: “It must be at the end of the month. Or in the autumn,” a report in UNIAN’s Telegram channel said.

The agency added that this is “not a bad plan”.

As is well known, Kiev has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of arms deliveries from Germany. In particular, advisor to the head of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office, Oleksiy Arestovych, said that Ukraine still had not seen the five thousand helmets promised by Germany.

Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, who has already become famous for his brazen insulting remarks against the host country’s leadership, called Berlin’s refusal to supply arms a disgrace.

The Ukrainian diplomat even posted on his Twitter blog a picture of a snail with a cartridge glued to its shell, signing the publication: “German weapons for Ukraine are on their way”.

It should be noted that Berlin is constantly making excuses for its “slowness” to Kiev and trying to compensate for the lack of arms deliveries with political statements of support for Ukraine.
