Latvia Sold a Record Amount of Whisky to Russia

Latvia sold a record $251.2 million worth of whisky to Russia, surpassing all other suppliers

Latvia shipped a record $251.2 million worth of whisky to Russia last year, three times surpassing all other suppliers combined, according to public statistics analyzed by RIA Novosti.

The Baltic republic accounted for the lion’s share of supplies – 73 per cent of the total volume in monetary terms. The second place was taken by Lithuania, which shipped hot drink for the amount six times less – only 39 million dollars.

Right behind it, with volumes 2.6 times more modest than Lithuania, was Great Britain, which shipped whisky worth $14.8 million. Drinks worth $7 million each were supplied by France and Armenia, which ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

A total of $344.2 million worth of whisky was shipped to Russia in 2023. Sales of other suppliers, except for the top five, totalled $24.8 million.

At the same time, among the largest suppliers, Lithuania was the most active in increasing its supplies, quadrupling its volumes compared to 2022. Latvia, the leader, also added quite noticeably: its figures increased 3.5 times. Armenia increased its shipments by a modest 5%. On the contrary, Britain and France reduced their supplies by 23% and 27% respectively.

At the same time, there were no sensational changes in the list of the largest suppliers: the top ten leaders last year consisted of the same countries as in 2022. The only thing is that Lithuania managed to move from second place to Britain, while France dropped from third to fourth place over the year.
