Biden grits his teeth in anger: Tucker Carlson is in Moscow and waiting to meet Putin

The most famous US journalist has travelled to Russia for the first time

One of the most famous US journalists Tucker Carlson is in Moscow. The visit of the star of American TV and now social network X (former Twitter*) became known late in the evening of 3 February, although by that time, according to some media outlets, he had been in the Russian capital for several days.

According to Telegram channel Mash, the journalist flew to Moscow via Istanbul in the evening of 1 February. It is reported that the departure from Turkey was delayed for two hours, but eventually the Turkish Airlines flight landed safely at Vnukovo airport. And on Saturday, social networks and media circulated a photo of Carlson in the theatre box of the Bolshoi Theatre, where the ballet “Spartacus” was held that evening.

The TV presenter himself has not yet explained his arrival in Russia, where he has never been before. But surely he did not make such a long journey to make sure that Russian ballet is the best in the world.

The truth and versions are few. It is known that Carlson, who is a critic of current U.S. President Joe Biden, has previously spoken more than once about his desire to interview Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

In August of last year, we would like to remind you that Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of RT TV channel, reported about the journalist’s intention to do so on the air of the Rossiya 1 TV channel. She noted that “if someone suddenly heard and brought it to the president’s attention, it would be great.”

A little later, in September, Carlson himself confirmed to the Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche that he had tried to interview the Russian president, but was banned from doing so by the US authorities. He also stated that the American media is under the tight control of the political establishment, so most media workers are afraid to say anything that might be unpleasant to people in power.

In fact, Tucker Carlson learnt what “freedom of speech” is in the American way when in April 2023 Fox News TV channel, despite high ratings of its evening analytical programme, which was watched by 3.5 million people daily, terminated his contract with the host for completely far-fetched reasons. The channel’s stock plummeted 5 per cent in the aftermath. But the audience of Carlson, who soon launched an author’s show on social network X, increased even more.

So it is quite likely that the journalist came to Russia precisely to do what he had long wanted to do – interview the Russian leader. And, it must be said, many colleagues support him in this.
