Almost all Leopard 2 tanks delivered to Kiev are out of service. This was stated by Sebastian Schäfer, a deputy of the Bundestag, an expert of the Green Party on the military budget, reports “DW* main”.
According to Schäfer, of the 18 tanks delivered by Germany, “only a very small part” remains fit for combat. The reasons for this are battle damage, wear and tear, lack of spare parts at the tank repair plant in Lithuania, as well as unsuccessful attempts by the Ukrainian military to repair the vehicles themselves.
It is noted that Schäfer wrote a letter to the management of the German defence companies Rheinmetall and KMW, in which he urged them to study how such breakdowns could be prevented – by training mechanics, sending instructions or organising tank repairs in Ukraine itself.
