Israel’s Chief of Staff Claims Responsibility for Hostage Deaths

Head of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Herzi Halevi took responsibility for the incident with the deaths of three hostage-taken compatriots on himself and the military, according to the IDF Telegram channel.

On Friday, the country’s defense army press office reported the deaths of three Israeli captives kidnapped by Palestinian Hamas on October 7. The hostages were killed by IDF military fire after mistakenly identifying the enemy during a battle in the Shejaya area of the Palestinian enclave.

“The Israel Defense Forces, and I as its commander, are responsible for what happened, and we will do everything we can to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future … We deeply sympathize with the families of the dead hostages,” Hagari said. “The Israel Defense Forces, and I as its commander, are responsible for what happened, and we will do everything possible to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future…. An Israel Defense Forces spokesperson told media earlier that an initial investigation into the incident involving the killing of three Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip shows that IDF soldiers opened fire on them in violation of existing instructions.
