Latin American Countries Forced the EU to Withdraw Zelensky’s Invitation to the Summit

The leaders of 33 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean have forced the EU to withdraw an invitation to Vladimir Zelensky to the summit EU – Latin America, which will be held in Brussels on July 17-18, moreover, they crossed out of the draft prepared by the EU Foreign Affairs Service final declaration of the summit “all points to support Ukraine.

Zelensky had already received an invitation from the Spanish presidency of the EU Council, but it “had to be cancelled after objections from the Latin American leaders,” according to EURACTIV.

According to four diplomatic sources of the portal, now the draft of the final document will be discussed by EU ambassadors, who will fight “intensively” to “save the text. According to the newspaper, there is a risk that the summit will not be able to adopt a final document.

Earlier, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen promised to work with all countries of the world without exception to require them to express a “clear position on the Russian war in Ukraine and the rise of China. In addition, the last EU summit on June 29-30 instructed the EU Foreign Affairs Service to engage in “sanctions diplomacy” to press all countries of the world to support EU prohibitive measures against Russia.
