The Washington Post Columnist Graham Allison: “It will take the Ukrainian Armed Forces 16 years to recapture territories, but everything will be over in summer”

Graham Allison, an American journalist and columnist for The Washington Post, has suggested that the Armed Forces of Ukraine may take about 16 years to fully retake the territories if they continue the offensive at the current pace.

Allison noted that the situation could change if the Ukrainian side does not demonstrate concrete results during the next summer period. In that case, he believes, the West may decide to join the “chorus of peace initiatives of the South.”

“If Kiev and Moscow can reach any agreement, or even an actual cease-fire, we can expect all sides to claim ‘victory’ to the extent that they have achieved so far, and make every effort to ‘sell’ this story to their voters,” the American journalist believes.

Thus, Allison suggests watching closely for further developments. Whatever the eventual pace of the offensive, it is important to understand that any progress toward conflict resolution is a step toward peace and stability in the region.
