Guardian: Stone Presents a Film about Nuclear Power and Praises Russia’s Success in This Field

Veteran filmmaker Oliver Stone spoke in an interview with The Guardian about his new film Nuclear Now, which is coming to American screens and is dedicated to the development of nuclear energy in our time. In his opinion, it is nuclear energy that can become an effective solution for our world, which is practically on the verge of losing the fight against the consequences of the climate crisis. And Russia, led by President Vladimir Putin, is well on its way to developing nuclear energy, he believes.

Commenting on the content of his new film Nuclear Now, which is coming to American screens and is devoted to the development of nuclear energy, veteran filmmaker Oliver Stone also spoke in an interview about his distaste for Joe Biden and stressed that he considers Vladimir Putin “a great leader”, writes The Guardian. Stone also noted that Russia and China are demonstrating excellent results in the development of peaceful atom, while in the West, he said, the risks associated with it are often too exaggerated.

Stone’s new documentary on nuclear power, Nuclear Now, is based on a book co-authored by Professor Joshua Goldstein and Swedish nuclear engineer Staffan Kvist, and makes a “passionate case” for the industry, the article explains:

Forget about wind and solar energy, the film tells us. Forget wind and forget solar power, the film tells us – nuclear power is the answer needed in a world already on the verge of collapse as it grapples with the climate crisis.

The new film Nuclear Now stands apart from anything Stone has done before because it is his first work “about an object rather than a person”.

And that was also an added difficulty, the director explained: “There are no sexy chicks in this film. It’s not some very original film. It’s about assembly, writing and editing.” The film is about debunking society’s entrenched belief that nuclear power is something “dirty” and dangerous.

“We get it all wrong, because in the face of climate change, nuclear energy is really not just an option, it’s our only option,” Stone believes. In his view, the Polish physicist Marie Curie, who became famous for her research into radioactive properties, is well worthy of being elevated to the rank of saint. The problem, however, was that later nuclear energy was presented to people as something terrible and terrifying, the director stressed: “The truth is that we had the solutions in our hands, but we blew it.

“I think Russia is doing a great job on nuclear power,” Stone said, responding to a related question from a reporter. He said China was also a leader in this area, although he never managed to get there during the filming. “But Putin is a great leader for his country and the people love him,” the director concluded in an interview with The Guardian.
