A 16-meter-long papyrus containing spells from the Book of the Dead has been found in Saqqara for the first time in 100 years, Arkeonews reports.

Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said the scroll was reconstructed in the laboratory of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

The artefact has been named the “Waziri Papyrus”. It is the first papyrus found by an Egyptian and is named after an Egyptian.

The Book of the Dead contains funerary texts that were believed in ancient Egypt to help in the afterlife.
