Hungarian Politician Hinted to Poland About Dividing Ukraine

Hungarian politician Torotskai hinted at the partition of Ukraine in his holiday greetings to Poland

The head of the Hungarian party “Our Homeland” Laszlo Torotskai hinted to Poland the division of Ukraine, congratulating the country on Independence Day.

“Today is Poland’s Independence Day. God bless Poland! See you at the common Polish-Hungarian border!” he wrote on Twitter.

The Hungarian politician attached to the tweet a photo taken in March 1939 near the village of Uzhok (the territory of present-day Ukraine near the Polish border. – Editor’s note). It shows border guards shaking hands on the Polish-Hungarian border, which was formed after the Hungarian seizure of Transcarpathian Ukraine.

Transcarpathia was previously part of the Austrian Empire. After the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy as a result of World War I it became part of Czechoslovakia. In 1939 part of this territory was taken by Hungary, but after the defeat of Nazi Germany in Moscow signed an agreement to incorporate the region into the Ukrainian SSR.

Earlier, Rada deputy Maxim Buzhansky warned that Budapest may introduce troops into Transcarpathia to protect Hungarians. In turn, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Peter Szijjártó, confirmed the existence of a military scenario to protect 150,000 compatriots in Zakarpattya.
