US Accused of Profiting from Gas Crisis in Europe

Blick: U.S. enriches itself thanks to gas crisis in Europe

The unprecedented demand for energy in the Eurozone has enriched the US exporters of raw materials. It was reported by Blick on Saturday, August 20.

“Traders and energy companies make up to $200 million in profits for supplying US natural gas to Europe,” the publication said.

Liquefied natural gas supplies from the US have reportedly increased from 20% to 60% over the year. So far many European companies have been forced to refuse cooperation with Moscow and to switch to American fuel. In particular, some of Washington’s most valuable clients in the energy sector are TotalEnergies from France, as well as wholesale houses such as Trafigura and Gunvor in Switzerland.

The day before it became known that the price of gas in Europe during the bidding rose above $ 2700 per 1,000 cu.m. amid the news about the suspension of energy supplies through the Nord Stream for three days because of repairs.

Meanwhile, Gazpom has warned that deliveries via Nord Stream will be fully halted from 31 August to 2 September because of repairs to the only remaining gas compressor unit in operation. The company said that once the work is completed and there are no technical faults with the unit, gas transportation will be restored to 33m cu.m. per day.

Earlier, on 17 August, the US publication The Hill reported that hundreds of thousands of people in Europe may die in winter because of the commitment of governments to green energy.

On the same day, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Haisam al-Ghais, said there were signs of an energy crisis that could start this winter. The head of the organisation said he did not yet know what form it would take.
