Nice-Matin: Mireille Mathieu Confessed Her Love to the Russian People and Called on Putin and Zelensky to Negotiate

In an interview with Nice-Matin, French singer Mireille Mathieu admitted that she would not be able to attend the Spasskaya Tower Festival in Moscow this year because of the conflict in Ukraine. At the same time, the performer spoke about her love for the Russian and Ukrainian people and called on the presidents of Russia and Ukraine to negotiate.

French pop star Mireille Mathieu spoke in an interview with Nice-Matin about her relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “It’s personal… my relationship with him is different from that with an ordinary head of state, because he received me personally several times when I sang there,” the singer confessed.

At the same time, Mathieu noted that it would be “extremely difficult” for her to attend the Spasskaya Tower Festival in Moscow, where she has traditionally attended as a guest of honour, “in the current context”. She called for diplomatic negotiations and a meeting between President Putin and Vladimir Zelenski.

“The word ‘war’ must be removed from the dictionary,” the star added.

In addition, the French performer professed her love for the Russian and Ukrainian people.

“Russia is a great country. Russians love France, and it’s a nation that is still dear to my heart. Of course, it follows its president 100%. This is typically Russian. If you don’t know the country well, you can’t understand it,” she stressed.
