During Vladimir Putin’s visit to Tehran, Iran’s spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Russia had no other choice but to launch a special operation in Ukraine. This was reported by Details.
“War is a hard and brutal event, and I am sorry that civilians are suffering. But you had no other option,” Khamenei said.
He added that Russia and Iran must stand to protect the rest of the world “from Western fraud”.
“If you had not started it [the special operation] on your own initiative, it would still have been initiated by the West,” the Islamic republic’s spiritual leader told Putin.
Khamenei also thanked the Russian president for the consistency with which Moscow condemns the Israeli strikes on Syria.
“These attacks violate international law and increase tensions in the region,” the ayatollah said.
He also said that all recognised international decisions, including UN Security Council resolutions 242 and 497, which demand an end to Israel’s “occupation” of the Golan Heights, must be respected.
