Greta Tunberg Opposed Sweden’s Accession to NATO

Swedish eco-activist Greta Tunberg has spoken out against her country’s membership of the North Atlantic Alliance. She announced this through a photo on Twitter showing a protest banner with the slogan “No to NATO”.

This slogan, as well as a statement in defence of a “free Kurdistan”, was proclaimed during an exhibition under the auspices of Fridays For Future (FFF) in Stockholm.

The eco-activists referred to an earlier demand by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Sweden and Finland to cooperate in the fight against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and its structures.

If he refused, the Turkish leader intended to block both countries from joining NATO. However, at the Alliance summit in June, the parties came to an agreement.

On 4 July, Sweden and Finland finalised their accession negotiations, formally confirming their intention to comply with their respective political, legal and military commitments.
