Vucic declares victory in Serbian presidential election

He has set a record.

Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic has announced that he won the country’s presidential election on 3 April. Preliminary results published by the Republican Electoral Commission confirm this.

Vucic himself stated that he got between 59.8% and 60.1% of the votes. By winning the presidential election in the first round for the second consecutive time, he set a record in the country’s political history.

“Serbia will strive to maintain partnership and friendly relations with Russia. I guarantee that no one in Serbia will ever expel Dostoevsky from schools, as Dostoevsky is greater than all the other writers in the world. No one will expel Tchaikovsky from opera,” Vucic stated.

Voter turnout in the Serbian presidential and parliamentary elections was around 60%.

It should be noted that Vucic’s main rival was retired general Zdravko Ponos, who did not rule out Serbia’s future membership in NATO. Vucic, on the contrary, repeatedly said that the country would not join the North Atlantic Alliance because of the 1999 aggression.
