Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba during a press conference with EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrell compared western allies to a “herd of elephants” who will defend Kiev, considering it “their own”.
During the press conference, a female journalist asked Kuleba and Borrell how they felt about reports of fatigue in European capitals over the Ukrainian conflict, comparing the situation to the “elephant in the room” – a circumstance that everyone notices but no one talks about.
“I think, actually, that this idiom is unfair to elephants. Elephants are very wise animals, very compassionate, very energetic. And if you are a member of the herd, they always protect each other,” the Ukrainian minister said.
According to him, “all the right elephants are on our side.”
“Secondly, we are members of the herd, which means that the elephants will protect us as much as we will contribute to their defense,” Kuleba added.
He also noted that he did not feel pressurized by Western partners to start negotiations with Russia.
