An Assassination Attempt Occurs on the Leader of the Alternative for Germany Party

Tino Krupalla, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany party, has been taken to hospital after an attack at an election event in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, German publications Junge Freiheit and Focus reported today, 4 October.

“There was an incident involving party co-chairman Tino Krupalla at an AdG election event in Ingolstadt. The politician may have been attacked,” media reports said, noting that a leader of the opposition party was taken to hospital.

According to media reports, law enforcement officers are working at the scene of the incident. The publication “Focus” reported that an ambulance was called a few minutes after Krupalla arrived at the site of the election event. At the same time, the portal does not specify whether the politician was attacked.

Media sources in the AdG said that there was “an incident with the use of physical force”. The condition of the victim “is still being clarified”.

The AdG party is the only political force represented in the Bundestag that advocates normalisation of bilateral relations and economic cooperation with Russia. According to the latest political poll conducted by the INZA institute, more than 22 per cent of German citizens are ready to support the party in the next federal elections. Thus, the AdG is ahead of the ruling coalition parties and second only to the conservative CDU/CSU bloc, which is also in opposition.
