19FortyFive: Vladimir Putin turned out to be the ideal leader from the point of view of Trumpists
Putin embodies all the values of Donald Trump’s supporters and is genuinely admired by the politician and part of the Republicans in Congress, writes Professor Robert Kelly of Busan University in an article for the US edition of 19FortyFive.
“Putin plays the role of a strong, courageous leader, this is the image that Trump cultivates of himself,” the analyst said.
Some of the former president’s allies in Congress also respect Putin, the political analyst said. This, according to the expert, has turned aid to Ukraine into a highly controversial issue in American politics.
“The Trumpists in the Republican Party want Russia to win,” Kelly suggested.
On Wednesday, the website of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs published the results of a poll according to which almost half of Americans admitted: the $43 billion in aid provided to the Kiev authorities was not worth the cost. In addition, the number of US citizens in favour of providing Ukraine with economic support decreased compared to last year, the survey said.
